Kitchen cabinet trends for 2026 — and which brands actually make them
Trend pieces are easy to write and hard to use: they tell you fluted oak is in, not which cabinet line sells a fluted oak door, in what sizes, at what price. This guide does the second half. We took the three data sets that matter for 2026 — the NKBA | KBIS Kitchen Trends Report, the Houzz U.S. Kitchen Trends Study of 1,780 renovating homeowners, and what was actually on the floor at KBIS in Orlando in February — added MasterBrand's survey of 1,141 dealers and designers, and then went brand by brand through the catalogues of the fifteen lines we carry and the national names we compete with. The trend has to exist in the numbers, and the door has to exist in a catalogue, before it goes on this page.

Where the 2026 numbers come from
Four sources carry this guide. The NKBA | KBIS 2026 Kitchen Trends Report (September 2025) surveys designers, manufacturers, remodelers and architects on what they expect over the next three years. The 2026 U.S. Houzz Kitchen Trends Study (January 2026) is the consumer side: 1,780 homeowners who renovated or are renovating, surveyed in July 2025. KBIS 2026 in Orlando (February 17–19) is where the makers showed what they will actually ship, and MasterBrand's 2026 Cabinetry Trends survey asked 1,141 dealer customers and designers in the U.S. and Canada what their clients chose. Where the four disagree we say so; where our own showrooms in Union, Paramus and Rochelle Park see something different, we say that too. Our 2027 kitchen trends guide covers the whole room; this one stays on the cabinets.
1. Wood beats white for the first time
This is the headline of the year. Houzz's 2026 study has wood-tone cabinets at 29 percent of renovated kitchens and white at 28 — wood "has officially taken the top spot from white", up six points while white fell five. NKBA's designers agree from the other side: 59 percent say wood grain is growing and has surpassed painted cabinets. MasterBrand's dealers report white dropping from first to third in homeowner preference for the first time in nearly a decade, behind light stains and off-whites. The warmth is the point — Houzz's medium wood tones (15 percent) outrank light (11) and dark (3), and the KBIS floor in February was, in Formica's words, "midtone and dark browns" with grain "celebrated rather than concealed".
Who makes it. Every line we carry stains wood; the difference is species and cut. Shiloh offers nine species including standard, rift-cut and quarter-sawn white oak, walnut, cherry, hickory and alder with stains, glazes and highlights on 40 door styles — the rift white oak arched kitchen is the reference. St. Martin lists seventeen stains, wire-brushes its rift white oak and hand-sands its walnut, and its 2026 core palette pairs Simply White with Rift White Oak, Washed Walnut and Dark Brown Oak. Fabuwood added the stains Mocha and Desert Oak at KBIS 2025, Truffle and Canyon Oak at KBIS 2026, and lists Natural Oak and Timber alongside a Designer Stain Collection (Biscuit, Claystone, Elderberry, Dark Aqua, Seaside Pine) — our Desert Oak kitchen and the Dove-and-Timber kitchen in Oradell show the range. Forevermark gives the look at Level I with its Petit white oak door (Cranford). Great Northern shows its Salerno door in rift-sawn white oak and Ligna in walnut; Crystal adds a cerused white-oak finish and Plain & Fancy offers rift-cut and quarter-sawn white oak and walnut on most of its 66 doors. Nationally, KraftMaid's 600 Series makes walnut an exclusive, and Medallion and Yorktowne both added walnut for Fall 2026, and Medallion a new light stain, Gossamer.
Our read: the ask in New Jersey is rift white oak in a light, natural or whitewashed finish, often on the island only, with painted perimeter cabinets. See the white oak page for which of our lines offer which cut, and the cut guide for why rift costs more.
2. Shaker slims down, slab moves up
Shaker still wins — 58 percent of Houzz's renovators chose it — but the frame is getting thinner and the slab is gaining: flat-panel doors took 22 percent on Houzz, NKBA's panel says slab doors are gaining with 69 percent of its respondents, and MasterBrand's dealers report flat panels and "subtle raised details" on the rise. The designer press calls the narrow version "micro-Shaker"; Livingetc traces the frame from 100 mm to 70 mm and down to 25 mm.
Who makes it. The slim shaker is where our lines are strongest. Shiloh's Malibu has a 1⅝-inch frame, Concord 1¾, Somerset a 1¾-inch stile; Fabuwood's Luna is a true slab (in Truffle, Dove and Timber) and its new Siena slab carries continuous vertical and horizontal grain in 23 textured finishes; Forevermark's Petit collection is the slim shaker at Level I; NOMA reduces the whole decision to three doors — Plane (slab), Line (slim frame) and Frame; Adornus lists Fresno with a one-inch stile and rail and Providence as its thinner-profile shaker; Great Northern's Salerno is a "mini Shaker"; and Eclipse puts Shiloh's doors and the Metropolitan slab on a frameless box so the gaps between doors shrink too. Nationally, Cubitac's Artisan is a "super narrow" slanted shaker, Yorktowne's Annetta is a "midi-Shaker", and StarMark's October 2025 launch leaned into slab and French-cut mitre doors. The Paramus walnut thin-shaker kitchen is the look in one photo; our door guide explains the proportions.
3. Reeded and fluted fronts — the texture trend, with a warning
Every KBIS recap named it: "fluted and reeded cabinet details" (2020 Design), "reeded and fluted details add dimension and help hide fingerprints" (Formica), fluting and knurling on the hardware too (Berenson). The caution comes from the same designers a few months later — Homes & Gardens quotes Kathy Kuo that fluting is "not quite as timeless" and should be an accent, and House Digest already calls fully fluted rooms "anxious and unsettled". Our view matches: reeding belongs on an island face, a bar front, a hood or a run of pantry doors, not on forty doors.
Who makes it. Shiloh added the Reeded Malibu — the narrow-frame Malibu with a reeded centre panel — which is how the Westfield kitchen got its Evergreen Fog reeded island beside a flush-inset Malibu perimeter in Beige. St. Martin's Castine is a vertical fluted door and Pipestone a flat door with routed flutes; NOMA runs a reeded white-oak vanity front; Fabuwood built the fluted island face on our Desert Oak kitchen; Crystal makes reeded panels as a custom style; Plain & Fancy will build whatever profile the drawing shows. Nationally, StarMark's spring 2026 launch added reeded panels to match its Shoshone door, Yorktowne's Fall 2026 Herbert is a midi-shaker with a reeded centre panel, and Medallion offers reeded glass in its metal-door programme.
4. Colour leaves the island: greens, warm neutrals, two-tone
Grey is over and the data is unanimous: NKBA has greens at 86 percent of its panel and blues at 78; Houzz has green (6 percent) ahead of grey (5) for the first time; MasterBrand reports "muted and sage greens have overtaken gray" and names a near-black green, Lush Forest, its 2026 Finish of the Year. The neutrals went warm with them — Sherwin-Williams chose Universal Khaki and Benjamin Moore the espresso-charcoal Silhouette for 2026 — and the colour is moving off the island onto the perimeter: MasterBrand measured perimeter colour up 15 percent in two years, and nearly a quarter of Houzz's renovators ran two tones, with white, off-white and wood the usual uppers.
Who makes it. Shiloh's standard paint deck already carries Evergreen Fog, Clary Sage, Pewter Green, Rookwood Shutter Green, Naval, Hale Navy and Iron Ore, adds Shoji White, Quietude and Rookwood Shutter Green as its 2026 trend colours, and matches any Sherwin-Williams chip beyond that. Fabuwood's KBIS 2026 Designer Collection is Cabernet Red, Forest Green, Macadamia Beige, Mint Green and Orchid Purple, alongside Pistachio Green, Sage Green, Hunter Green and the warm stain Truffle; Macadamia Beige has since moved into the stocked Signature programme. Kith paints Billiard Green, Moss, Basil, Forestwood and Smokey Blue on maple; St. Martin offers Sage Green, Forest Green, Pewter Green, Blue Slate and Ocean Blue; Adornus uses Sherwin-Williams names outright (Succulent, Roycroft Green, Quietude, Naval); Great Northern has Pewter Green, Smoky Blue and Harbor; Plain & Fancy and Crystal match a chip. Two-tone is a construction question as much as a colour one — our two-tone guide and the green cabinets page show the pairings that work, and the Scotch Plains Sand White and Midnight kitchen does it at Level I.
5. Storage first: pantries, tall runs and the inner drawer
Houzz's renovators add specialty storage 94 percent of the time, and 47 percent of those who add a built-in feature add a pantry cabinet; walk-in pantries (16 percent) and butler's pantries (7) are climbing. NKBA's panel puts floor-to-ceiling cabinetry, more drawers and walk-in pantries at 70 percent and says "custom storage is replacing dining tables"; MasterBrand's dealers see walk-in pantries "in almost 100 percent of new-construction requests".
Who makes it. Tall cabinets, roll-outs and inner drawers are standard across the dealer tier, so the differences are in the catalogue depth. Fabuwood's Q4 2026 introductions add the DB-2 concealed inner drawer and deepen its Illume lazy-susan and easy-reach corner bases to 24 inches; Shiloh and Plain & Fancy draw pantry walls to order; Medallion and Yorktowne now offer 120-inch tall cabinets and 48-inch drawer bases; StarMark added larder cabinets. The pantry cabinets page shows the four kinds of pantry we build, and the Chatham kitchen has a black butler's pantry with glass uppers beside a rift oak island.
6. Frameless, handleless and integrated
NKBA's panel expects panel-faced refrigeration at 72 percent and panel-faced dishwashers at 85; LG's "Seamless" appliances at KBIS were nearly devoid of handles. Behind those panels sits frameless construction, which Woodworking Network reports is growing in the U.S. and dominant in Canada. The appeal is simple: no face frame, so drawers and openings run up to 10 percent wider and the fronts read as one surface.
Who makes it. We carry more frameless than most showrooms because the Northeast asks for it: Fabuwood's Illume and Ovela (Ovela is the all-plywood American-style frameless), Eclipse (Shiloh's doors on a ¾-inch frameless box), NOMA and St. Martin Vista, Adornus Essential, Designer and Alusso — Alusso with the GOLA integrated aluminium channel for a handle-free kitchen — Kith's Eudora, Crystal's Frameless Current and Encore, Great Northern's Jay Rambo series and Plain & Fancy's 32-mm frameless. Nationally the move is the same: Medallion launched a frameless line in August 2026, Yorktowne reworked its Fraser door for frameless, and KraftMaid's 600 Series added a frameless option. The frameless page compares them; the construction guide explains the box.
7. Texture and mixed materials: matte, super-matte, metal and glass
The sheen went down — "matte, textured finishes replace high polish" at KBIS, "soft matte finishes" in the 2020 Design recap, and Livingetc's designers landing on a mid-sheen rather than either extreme — while the materials multiplied: decorative metal-mesh inlays and cane inserts (Berenson), cabinets styled as furniture with legs and glass fronts (Formica), textured wood-look TFL panels (Woodworking Network).
Who makes it. Eclipse's Metropolitan slab comes in gloss acrylic, matte acrylic, high-pressure laminate, textured thermally-fused laminate and reconstituted veneer; Adornus Alusso lists 20-plus textured finishes and super-matte and high-gloss options; Fabuwood's Siena is a slab in 23 textured finishes; Crystal writes about textured melamine and TFL; Plain & Fancy builds metal and leather door fronts and its 2026 colour notes name Rubio Monocoat matte, Shinnoki veneers and FENIX ultra-matte. Nationally, Medallion says full metal doors and inserts "moved from specialty to mainstream" in 2026 and StarMark launched a wire-mesh door collection. Our in-stock closet door colours page is a good place to see 131 of these surfaces — lacquered high gloss, perfect matt, soft-touch, textured laminate and veneer — side by side.
8. Hardware goes warm, and mixes
Bar pulls on 74 percent of Houzz's renovated kitchens, knobs on 37; brushed nickel the top finish at 28 percent, then black, then brushed gold; Berenson and Würth both called mixed metals a defining 2026 move. The slow fade is matte black — Hunker and House Digest both put it on the way out, partly because the cheaper versions chip.
Who makes it. Hardware is not a cabinet brand's job, which is why we keep it in stock ourselves: 21 Richelieu pulls and knobs in brushed nickel, matte black, antique nickel and champagne bronze, so the handle goes on the door sample in the showroom. For handleless, Adornus Alusso's GOLA channel and the slab lines above do it without hardware at all.
What is fading
- The all-white kitchen — down five points on Houzz, third on MasterBrand's list, and House Digest's "flat and uninspired" without contrast. White is not gone; it is now one of two colours.
- Grey — overtaken by green in every survey; Medallion calls the decade of grey over.
- Farmhouse as a whole style — down 14 percent on MasterBrand's survey, now blended rather than used alone; NKBA's panel says earthy beiges and greens "replace white farmhouse looks".
- High gloss — Livingetc, Homes & Gardens and Woodworking Network all confine it to ultra-modern rooms.
- Open shelving — now mostly inside butler's pantries (52 percent of them) rather than on the kitchen wall.
- Wide 100-mm shaker frames and wall-to-wall uppers without relief — the designer press is unanimous.
- Fluting on everything — see trend 3; one surface, not forty.

The stocked Level I lines follow the trends at a distance by design: they carry the colours that sold last year, in the sizes that sold last year, and that is why they cost what they cost. If the kitchen in your head is rift oak, a reeded island and a sage perimeter, the quote starts at Shiloh or St. Martin; if it is a white slim shaker with a wood island, Fabuwood or Forevermark will get there for less. Our ranked guide to the fifteen lines says which rung is which.
Bottom line
For 2026 the data points one way: warm wood over white, white oak and walnut, a slimmer shaker or a plain slab, reeding used as an accent, green and warm neutrals on the perimeter, storage before square footage, frameless where the look is modern, and warm brushed hardware. Every one of those exists in a catalogue we can order from tomorrow — Shiloh's Reeded Malibu and rift oak, Fabuwood's Siena and Designer Collection, St. Martin's 2026 palette, Eclipse's textured slabs, Adornus's handleless Alusso, Forevermark's Petit at Level I — and most of them are on a door sample in Union, Paramus or Rochelle Park. Bring the photo you keep coming back to and a designer will tell you which line builds it, at which level, over a free 3D design.
